NaNoWriMo is coming to an end…

Tomorrow is the last day of NaNoWriMo 2015. I can’t believe the month is coming to a close. November has been a month of ups and downs for me. It has also been the most depressing NaNoWriMo I have had in three years….but as Lily Tomlin has said, “The road to success  is always under construction.”

images-2It is true…the road to success has ups, downs, detours, and sometimes road blocks. My road block this month was a virus that took me under in more ways than one. I had to take three days off of work (Friday, Monday and Tuesday) and if you are a teacher then you know the horror that comes with taking days off. I cringe at taking more than one day off, but you do what you have to do. I went back to work with no makeup and little energy. I spent over $100 just on doctors’ visits and medications within just one week. The end result…an ulcer on my cornea that will leave scarring, possible vision issues AND I am still healing. Crazy.

So I didn’t get much writing done because writing with one good eye just wasn’t pleasant. However, now that I am done wallowing over my vision issues, it is time to act. That road to success I mentioned earlier needs a gigantic monster truck to just pile through the chaos. I am ready to drive that truck.

Let’s start with the positive:

  • I still have one good eye and the “bad” one might improve.
  • My corneal ulcer looks like a smiley face or a skull (It really does! All the doctors at the practice had to come look at it and would all giggle!).
  • I had the money to pay for medications.
  • I have doctors that I can go to.
  • I have a family to give me love and support.
  • I have heat and a house to keep me warm.
  • I am beyond lucky to be in good health other than an eye issue.
  • Resting my eye just means more naps on weekends. Win!
  • I started NaNoWriMo and I can still finish my book on my own time.
  • Writing is my therapy thus I am blessed with the use of my hands.

NaNoWriMo will be around next year, but writing is here for us every single day. Life is short; let’s not waste anymore time.
